Restaurants & Pubs in Devon

There are too many excellent pubs and restaurants in the area to mention them all, so here's a selection of our favourites. We are always glad to try out new places to eat and drink, so please let us know your suggestions to add to the list and we will happily road test them for you:

The Masons Arms in picturesque Branscombe is lovely and cosy in winter or with outside ‘thatched' tables when the weather's nice. In the centre of the village (you won't miss it) and not far from the beach.

Our friends introduced us to The Nobody Inn in Doddiscombsleigh (worth a visit for the name alone!). Great food and massive selection of tipples in a fab ‘Ye Olde Worlde' pub.

Topsham is a hotspot for great restaurants and pubs, we particularly like The Galley, and Petit Maison for great quality dining.

Exeter has numerous restaurant options, try MichaelCaine's at The Royal Clarence Hotel -this is posh nosh from the Michelin starred chef - with views of the Cathedral and a champagne bar - might be best saved for a special occassion.

The Turf can be accessed by a fun ferry ride from Topsham or via canal path from Exeter Quay. A great location, popular for bank holiday weekends. Also on the same path but not so far to go Double Locks has large gardens and a play area means that this is a good one with kids if the weather's good. Serves food, BBQs and live music but can be a wait for orders when busy.

Diggers Rest, Woodbury Salterton. This lovely thatched pub is popular with locals and visitors. With a good selection of food, open fire and comfy sofas plus a courtyard garden in the summer. Booking recommended for Sunday lunch and evenings.

The Salterton Arms pub in Budleigh Salterton has benefitted from a refurb, serves food and welcomes dogs.
